Preeti Preswala-Shah, MS, LMFT
Preeti Presswala-Shah is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in San Diego. She has more than 10 years of post-degree clinical experience working in the field as a therapist. Preeti has extensive experience in crisis interventions.
Prior to starting her practice in San Diego, she worked as a Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) Clinician helping clients in crisis situations and connecting them with appropriate treatment options. She has worked as a private practitioner, in a hospital setting and in outpatient clinics and has extensive clinical experience working with the child, adolescent and adult populations. Her interests includes working with dual diagnoses and addictions, couples and family therapy for various clinical presentations such as Mood disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Communication or Relationship problems, work and school frustrations among others. Coming from a diverse background, she understands the challenges faced by our multi-racial melting pot that is San Diego and enjoys working with culturally diverse population.
Preeti’s preferred clinical-theoretical perspective is cognitive-behavioral therapy, brief solution-focused and family systems therapies, and she also utilizes insight oriented, reality based, existential and behavioral techniques as appropriate and indicated.
Preeti sees her role as a therapist to help her clients reach their full potential by empowering them and guiding them through the process of therapy. Her philosophy is that helping clients recognize their inner strength leads to the path of recovery. She also believes therapy continues to work long after therapy has ended, if clients build their toolbox and learn to use those tools and their versatility. She is very empathic and non judgmental in her approach and makes her clients feel very comfortable during their difficult, stressful and often uncomfortable situations.
